North Caroline High School teacher Mirta Valdes-Bradner was recognized at the December Board of Education meeting for being named Foreign Language Teacher of the Year by the Maryland Foreign Language Association (MFLA).
The award was announced in September with a surprise visit to Ms. Valdes-Bradner’s classroom from Superintendent Dr. Simmons, Principal Spiker, and officials from MFLA. Ms. Valdes-Bradner was also celebrated during the MFLA conference awards event in November.
Supervisor of Instruction Jon Marketto noted that it was a great honor to have a Caroline teacher be the recipient of the state award. “Mirta is a true asset to the World Language Department at NCHS,” he said. He noted that Ms. Valdes-Bradner always accepts leadership roles, has tremendous drive, and is “top-notch” in all her endeavors. Ms. Valdes-Bradner thanked the board members and said she was always happy to represent Caroline County.
