This week is Maryland Children's Mental Health Week, and at PES we recognize that positive mental health and care is so important for our Panthers! To recognize this week announcements will be shared daily with students from the Maryland Children's Mental Health Campaign, classes will have the opportunity to create positive affirmation messages, and we will celebrate this week with a Wear Green Spirit Day on Thursday, 5/11. Green is the official color of Children's Mental Health, so we are looking forward to showing our green in support. Please see the flyer below for details.
Today we a celebrating Nurse Brenda Smith for School Nurses Day at PES! Nurse Brenda is so kind, caring, and always takes care of our Panthers and staff with the very best of care! We love her and are so thankful for all she does for us here at PES! Thank you Nurse Brenda! #pespantherpride
This week is teacher and staff appreciation week at Preston Elementary School! We want to take this opportunity to thank all of our staff members for all that they do each and every day, and we have a great week planned for them! Congratulations to Sophia Angeloni for being chosen as the PES Book Reviewer of the Week! The book that she gave a 5 star review for is the book To Dance - A Ballerina’s Graphic Novel by Siena Cherson Siegel. Ballerinas are young when they first dream of dance. Siena was six--and her dreams kept skipping and leaping, circling and spinning, from airy runs along a beach near her home in Puerto Rico, to dance classes at the School of American Ballet, to her debut performance on stage with the New York City Ballet while working with ballet legend George Balanchine.
Sophia loved this book because she loves to dance. She said the dancer in the book didn’t just dance. She experienced a lot of different things that helped her grow but she always came back to what she loved...to be a dancer. You can find this book in the graphic novel section of the library. Congratulations Sophia!
We want to thank our amazing Cafeteria team for all they do! Today is School Lunch Hero Day and they really are the hero’s of our school day! Thank you Miss Mandy, Hardenia, Cheryl, and Christina! Congrats to Mrs. Emily Hutchison on being our Staff Member of the Week! Mrs. Hutchison is rocking it in 2nd grade this year, and it has been amazing to see her grow at PES into the confident, poised, and caring educator she is! Her kiddos love her and they have grown so much this year! Thank you to Mrs. Hutchison for being such a champion for kids, and for all the love, care, and dedication she gives to her students each and every day!
We often talk about how PES is a family, and tonight exemplified that in every way possible. Congratulations to Mrs. Butler, Mrs. Willoughby, Mrs. Harris, Mrs. Saylor and Mrs. Elin for being recognized for the difference they make in our students lives at the Staff Celebration Event presented by SECAC. The testimonials and heartfelt words of our families are something that we will remember for a long time. They make such a difference each and every day, and it was amazing to see them recognized. We love our entire PES Family!
Kindergarten has a lot of Alphabet celebrations going on this month and today was A Day - and they brought in animals for A Day! Sit down before viewing - you may pass out from the cuteness! 😊

Thank you to the Maryland Science Center for showing us their cool science today for our Panthers! They did two amazing shows and everyone had a great time while learning about science! #pespantherpride
Finally it was Mr. Faller’s homeroom having the opportunity to visit the Sultana! They learned about our local maritime history, and much more! Great job! Looks like they got very up close to some interesting creatures! Our entire 4th grade had a fantastic trip! Thank you to the crew of the Sultana, our parent chaperones, Mrs. Kelly Carroll, and especially Ms. Veronica August for making this incredible experience possible! #pespantherpride
